The Rotary Club of Walsall

SERVICE ABOVE SELF
We do not know for certain where it all began, but it is believed that the first charity "trees of light" appeared in South Africa and, like all good ideas, has spread rapidly.

The aims and objects of the Tree of Light

The idea is that the "TREE" gives a point of focus for people to remember a person or cause that is special to them. This can be particularly important at a special time of year for those who have lost a child, relative or close friend.
The "TREE" sets out to raise money for worthy local causes by inviting people to sponsor a light on the "TREE" in memory of that person or cause.
This year the money raised will be donated to Acorns Hospice, Walsall and other Rotary Charities. President Rod Hannan said "I should like to thank you all for your generous donations to our new Tree of Light project. Between us we have raised many thousands for our charities and created an oasis of remembrance in a busy shopping centre. We hope that this will become a regular feature of Christmas in Walsall. I wish you all a happy New Year"

We thank our many business sponsors, particularly Valley Nurseries and Marks & Spencer
